Ukraine aid
Assistance for Ukrainian refugees
Ukraine is at war. We are providing help for refugee families, with aid transports and support for refugees in Wismar: two families live in our clubhouse. An ukrainian club also meets there as a social venue for Ukrainians from Wismar and the surrounding area, as well as an ukrainian church.
Aid transports
We have brought relief supplies to Ukraine in various aid transports, with great support from the Hanseatic city of Wismar and many donors from the region. Other transports were carried out together with partners from Saxony. The last transport went to Wismar’s twin town of Chornomorsk in June 2023.
Refugees in the clubhouse
Two mothers with one respectively two children and a couple currently live in our clubhouse. They are supported by our employees, especially Gitta Pabst: finding a place in kindergarten/school, organizing medical help and therapeutic support for an autistic child, assistance with authorities and bureaucracy – even for German citizens, this is not easy to manage. But together we were able to achieve a lot.
Creative afternoon
Hand in hand with Ukrainian fellow citizens: our creative afternoons at the clubhouse are public meetings and everyone is welcome. We want to promote exchange between the local population and our Ukrainian guests. In addition to activities such as games and handicrafts, there is coffee and cake, good conversation and spiritual input from our pastors.
Ukrainian club and church
Ukrainian women and their children have been meeting regularly in the clubhouse since June 2022. They sing, do handicrafts, paint and much more. These events are mainly organized by the women themselves. Since November 2022, Ukrainian church services have been held on Sundays under the leadership of Pastor Viacheslav.
Partners
We work closely with the Wismar parish of St. Marien-St. Georgen to care for Ukrainian refugees. However, our aid services are also made possible by external support, e.g. from the Nordkirche Protestant Church, the state police orchestra (benefit concerts) or the “Hand in Hand for Northern Germany” fundraising campaign (creative afternoon).
